Puerto Rican Jew

I didn’t find out what I was until later in life. Being half Irish/Italian and half Puerto Rican really opened up my eyes to new cultures. I was raised Jewish, so I already knew all about that part of me. Being adopted, I secretly struggled internally not knowing my history. about 10 years ago, I found my birth mother and then I was able to know my true history.

On to my icon. I choose to incorporate the Puerto Rican flag with a Jewish star of David, instead of the 5 point star. The black and white flag also represents the state of mourning that the island has been experiencing since the US government imposed a federal control board with power over the commonwealth's jurisdiction. But to me, the whole icon symbolizes the struggles that all my people are going through right now with the rise of hate in this country.
